Registrations open for EcoFest 2013

21st November 2012 | Nicky Davis

During March 2013, Kaipatiki Project, the environment centre of the North Shore, will be helping community organisations and businesses celebrate and showcase everything that is environmentally good on the North Shore.

The organisers of the month-long festival, which is supported by Auckland Council, want to hear from any not-for-profit groups, community organisations or businesses who have an event to list, can offer a talk or display, or who can help support the festival through sponsorship, donations of goods or services, or assistance with publicity.

Festival Manager Louisa Chase says “We are looking forward to showcasing all the work that goes on to protect the environment of the North Shore and inspire our communities to live more sustainably – whether that’s a local action group looking after a park, neighbours growing a community orchard or vege garden, or a business developing eco-friendly products. Many community organisations struggle with publicity, even though their efforts can be shining examples of how we can all live a bit smarter and become more environmentally-minded. The Festival is an excellent opportunity for these groups, and local businesses, to raise their profile and we warmly invite them to engage with people through putting on an event however small”.

Events can be talks, walks, tours, drop-ins, displays, open days, workshops or something more imaginative. It has to be happening on the Shore (up to Orewa) in March 2013, and will have a sustainable or environmental theme.

All the event registrations received will then be compiled into a widely-publicised calendar of eco-happenings that will promote and celebrate environmental action, and inspire people to explore and discover lifestyle changes that make good sense and impact less on the environment.
