Event by: Greenhithe Community Trust
Oratau Reserve runs from Orchard Reserve off Almond Grove out to Lucas Creek and is an important stream outlet and bird corridor. Friends of Oratau Reserve is a volunteer group lead by local resident Pete which was started in February 2019. Friends of Oratau Reserve carry out restoration work (removing pest plants, pest animal control & planting natives) and meet every Wednesday at 9.30 am at the end of Oratau Place, one of the entrances to the reserve.
Activities that you can be involved with:
• Rescuing native plants from weeds
• Preparing sites for native plantings
• Planting native plants
No conservation skills/experience is required – just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
Whether you’re an individual, a family, or a group of friends, everyone is welcome to lend a helping hand. Join us. Come, get fit, care for our environment, and make some new friends. Together we can make a difference.
Morning tea is provided, but please bring a cold drink, if required.
In the event of bad weather, a note will be placed on the Greenhithe Ecology Network Facebook page and an email to those who have registered.
The Friends of Oratau Reserve is a Greenhithe Community Trust initiative and is supported by the Upper Harbour Local Board, and Auckland Council.
