Kaipātiki Project is beginning a habitat creation journey to enhance the environment for local native butterflies & moths.
We are following Moths & Butterflies of NZ Trust guidelines to plant native caterpillar food plants and nectar species for adult insects. Designing a planting plan that provides nectar all year round is part of the challenge.
We need help to source more flower seeds & bulbs and cuttings of flowering shrubs to underplant our two community orchards attached to our nursery sites at Birkdale and Hobsonville.
The wonderful Jacqui Knight of NZ Butterflies has already donated some cutting material to get us started.
When the two orchards are blooming and fluttering with butterflies, we will ask NZ Butterflies to certify that we indeed have gardens to be proud of.
