First Planting Day 2024

Papa ki Awataha | Jessie Tonar Reserve

We are launching our planting season this year by getting our own hands dirty. Join the whole Kaipātiki Project team, as we head out of the office and into the bush! We have over 1500 native plants to get into the ground, and we hope you’ll join us!

The day will be divided into three sessions:

9:30am – 12:00pm Session One

12:00pm – 2:00pm Session Two

2:00pm – 4:00pm Session Three

Choose the session that suits you best, and book your place using the book now buttons below. Don't forget to invite your friends and family.

Kaipātiki Project will be hosting a total of SEVEN planting days this year. Click here to view all of our 2024 planting days ↗️

Northcote's new greenway runs through the heart of the town, following the newly daylighted Te Ara Awataha stream. The stream springs up in Papa Ki Awataha | Jessie Tonar Reserve, and goes on to connect a number of separately pre-existing local reserves together.

Expert ecologists from Kaipātiki Project have been monitoring the stream and surrounding bush since the daylighting began in 2019. We have been actively monitoring, regenerating and protecting the native ecosystems since, with the generous help of numerous dedicated volunteers from our local community.

Would you like to get involved?

Regeneration of this unique space continues throughout the year, well beyond planting season. In fact, planting days are just the cherry on top, where regular regeneration days are the whole cake! Join us for "the whole cake" and see what it takes to keep our local ecosystems thriving:

Te Ara Awataha Regular Regeneration Days

These events are a great opportunity to connect with the community and with nature, while becoming a highly knowledgeable, seasoned-hand at native bush regeneration.
