EcoFest: Fernglen Native Plant Gardens Committee and Trust

Hosted by Fernglen Native Plant Gardens

Fernglen Native Plant Gardens has an extensive native plant collection and forest canopy walks. Discover the special history of this property, purchased by the Fisher family in 1888.

Come and see  rare & unique plants from all over NZ. We are offering a guided botanical tour around the gardens and a seed collection and propagation workshop. The guided tour can take from 1 to 2 hours, depending on any special interests of the group. Alternatively, you can opt for a self-guided tour, the native plants are labelled along the path.

You can take part in the events below by registering beforehand.

  • Guided Botanical Tour: 10:30am or 1pm
  • Seed Collection and Propagation Workshop: 10am-10:30am or 1pm-1:30pm

Additionally, there will be some ‘hard-to-find’ native plants available for sale, horticulture advice on ‘which’ native plants to plant ‘when’ and ‘where’, nature activities & trail for children of all ages and a live demonstration of nature journaling by botanical artist Lesley Alexander. Join us for a cup of Kawakawa tea to enjoy as well.

Fernglen Native Plant Gardens are open daily during daylight hours throughout EcoFest and the rest of the year. Feel free to choose the self-guided option any time during daylight hours, not only during Ecofest.

Please note that the garden is not wheelchair/pram friendly.
