Small Acts, Big Impact.
Can you pick up 10 pieces of litter before 10 AM? Or if you're not a morning person, why not make it 10 PM?
Join the dog walkers, stroller pushes, joggers, runners and everyone in between as we collect 10 pieces of litter on our day routes. It's not about perfection; it's about collective action.
Prizes will be up for grabs for those who share their stories!
So how does it work? Bring a bread bag (or any bag you have) on your walk, run, dog walk, or school drop-off. Set yourself a goal of 10 pieces of litter.

Our "Litter Legends" are the champion volunteers of our Litter Prevention and Collection Program. If you hate litter or you love the idea of putting an end to litter, this group is for you!

What happens when everyday people step up to protect their city?
We hit the streets of Tāmaki Makaurau to capture something truly inspiring - locals coming together to pick up litter and care for their environment. From busy sidewalks to hidden corners, we met incredible humans turning small actions into real impact.
We’re calling them what they are: Litter Legends.
The November 2025 Plaza Party at Northcote proved to be the perfect opportunity to launch The Clean Collective project, alongside a fun and impactful community event.
While hordes of Northcote families enjoyed a morning of fun, our team and dedicated volunteers got to work picking up over 500 items along Te Ara Awataha walkway.
Inspiration
The event sparked vital conversations about key litter behaviours. Why do we pick up litter when we see it, and how do we take our litter home with us.
These conversations spark inspiration and insights that can directly impact the health of our ngahere and awa.
Impact
It wasn't all talk. We collected 500+ pieces of litter, amounting to 8.7 kg in total.
The Biggest Culprit: Soft plastics (130+ items), primarily snack packaging.
Community Feedback: Pre and post-event surveys showed a significant lift in motivation and community pride. Seeing litter in the streets is likely to reduce motivation and pride, but picking it up definitely increases it!
