Natural Dye Workshops

WORKSHOP | Join Holli and learn how to harvest, prepare and use plant-based dyes from the garden to colour textiles, paper, fabric and wool fibres.

Ngakinga Sculpture Garden

These workshops are part of a year-long public art project growing natural dye plants. Ngakinga is a public sculpture garden and living art space. It's a living sculpture garden exploring decolonisation, ecosystem regeneration, sustainable practice and connection to whenua, all while turning plants into art.

Step into the garden and watch plants turn into colour! This workshop takes you from growing and harvesting dye plants, to mordanting fabric, to making a dye bath, and finally transforming fibre into beautiful, unique hues.

It’s playful, unstructured, and hands-on—participants are invited to explore, experiment, and learn through doing and getting messy.

Harvest flowers and dye plants from the garden and prepare a bubbling, colourful dye bath together.

Thanks to the funders supporting these workshops.
