Stream Planting Day

Eskdale Reserve

Join us for a meaningful day of planting along the banks of the stream in Eskdale Reserve, one of Kaipātiki’s most precious ecosystems championing flood resilience in our neighbourhood. This planting event is part of our Community Flood Resilience efforts to restore the natural function of our waterways—so they can better handle heavy rain and provide safe habitat for native wildlife.

Bring the whānau and spend a few hours giving back to te taiao. Afterwards, take time to explore Eskdale Reserve’s lush native bush or relax in nearby parks. Sign up below—many hands make light work!

Planting native species is a powerful act of restoration. Your mahi will help stabilise stream banks, create vital habitat, increase long-term carbon capture, and give our waterways the space they need to thrive. Together, we can build a #FloodReady future.

Strengthening Resilience, Restoring Ecosystems

Since 2023, Kaipātiki Project has been working through the Community Flood Resilience initiative to protect and enhance the streams of Auckland’s North Shore. Eskdale Reserve, a treasured pocket of native bush, has been a key focus—both for its ecological value and its role in flood management. With ongoing support from volunteers and Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters, this area continues to be a site of deep community care and environmental regeneration.

Eskdale’s stream system faces growing pressure from storm events, invasive species, and urban runoff. Through regular planting, clean-ups, and education, we’re restoring the natural resilience of this space—supporting native species, giving the stream room to breathe, and helping protect nearby homes and infrastructure from flooding.

Every planting day is a step toward a healthier, more flood-ready future. By planting natives and caring for this awa, you’ll help nourish ecosystems old and new, and strengthen the mauri of this special place.

Would you like to get involved?

Regeneration of this unique space continues throughout the year, well beyond planting season. In fact, planting days are just the cherry on top, where regular regeneration days are the whole cake! Join us for "the whole cake" and see what it takes to keep our local ecosystems thriving:
